Seiun
Koicha (thick tea) grade Uji matcha.
Originating from Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, this matcha represents a premium quality koicha tea distinguished by its intense, velvety, and full-bodied profile. It is robust, creamy, and sweet, delivering a rich and satisfying experience. The tea’s pronounced and enduring aftertaste is characterized by distinctive toasted seed aromas, which contribute to its unique sensory appeal. Compared to the Tennouzan variety, which follows next in our selection, this tea is lighter and sweeter in flavour.
When prepared as usucha (thin tea), it reveals an intense, creamy flavour profile, although the full-bodied richness and defining characteristics of the tea are somewhat subdued in this form. For optimal preparation, it is recommended to use water heated to 80-85°C for usucha, and 95°C for koicha, as using lower temperatures may cause the tea to develop bitter notes, detracting from its intended flavour.
Regarding the name Seiun "星雲," it translates to "nebula" in Japanese. This term is a compound word that elegantly combines two distinct elements, "star" and "cloud," symbolizing a celestial phenomenon where a cloud of gas and dust forms around stars. This poetic naming reflects the refined and harmonious nature of the tea itself.
