This exceptional ceremonial-grade matcha has been personally selected by Zabōsai Sōshō, the 16th grand tea master of the esteemed Urasenke school at Konnichian.  

Ryokumō no Mukashi represents a sophisticated koicha (thick tea) blend, highly regarded for its refined elegance, profound depth, and delicate sweetness. It has been meticulously crafted to suit formal tea gatherings conducted in the traditional Urasenke style. This matcha is distinguished by its smooth and full-bodied flavour profile, characterised by minimal bitterness and an enduring umami taste. The name, which translates to “green fur,” aptly describes its vibrant green hue and its velvety, luxurious texture.  

Offering a beautifully balanced and nuanced flavour, this matcha is ideal for both experienced tea connoisseurs and significant ceremonial events. Due to its subtle and refined nature, it is not recommended for culinary applications; rather, its qualities are best appreciated when prepared in the traditional manner as koicha, allowing its full character to be savoured.

Kanbayashi Shunsho

Established by Kanbayashi Shunsho during the Eiroku era, Kanbayashi Shunsho Honten boasts a distinguished 450-year legacy as a renowned tea house in Uji. Since the late 14th century, when the Ashikaga Shogunate played a role in enhancing the prestige of Uji tea, the Kanbayashi family has been dedicated to producing Uji tea. Now in its 14th generation, the family continues to honor tradition while embracing innovation under the guidance of Kanbayashi Shunsho XIV, maintaining the heritage of Uji tea and contributing to the development of tea culture in Japan.
