Koicha (thick tea) grade Uji matcha.

Originating from Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, this matcha presents a full-bodied and distinctive profile characterized by an intensively robust yet velvety-soft texture. The koicha offers an exceptionally prolonged aftertaste that initially unveils a complex array of chocolate and coffee aromas. This is subsequently complemented by sweet, creamy undertones, culminating in delicate floral notes. It is an especially rich and stimulating koicha tea with a notably enduring finish.

While this matcha is ideally prepared as a thick tea, it can also be enjoyed as a thin tea (usucha). In such cases, it is advisable to prepare it with a slightly greater dilution than usual—using 70 ml of water at 80°C for 1.5 grams of tea—to avoid any bitterness or tartness in the flavour profile. When brewed in this manner, the tea yields a mild, creamy, and sweet usucha, abundant in umami, accompanied by a delightful aftertaste.

Regarding the term Kaguraden "神楽殿": "Kagura" refers to a traditional form of ceremonial music and dance associated with the Shinto religion. The "Kaguraden" denotes a hall where these musical performances, religious ceremonies, and prayers are conducted.
