Hijiri Mukashi (Ceremonial Matcha for Koicha)
Hijiri Mukashi is a distinguished Uji matcha, named by the esteemed tea master Gen'ensai of the Urasenke tradition in tribute to Kanbayashi Shunsho XI, the artisan responsible for crafting this extraordinary koicha (thick tea). This particular matcha has been meticulously developed to excel in the preparation of koicha, delivering a rich and velvety texture accompanied by profound, multi-layered flavours that exemplify the finest qualities of premium Uji matcha. Its sophisticated balance and intricate complexity render it ideally suited for traditional tea ceremonies, as well as for connoisseurs who desire a luxurious and immersive matcha experience. The careful cultivation and processing methods employed in producing Hijiri Mukashi ensure that each serving embodies the essence of Japanese tea artistry, making it a treasured choice for both ceremonial occasions and refined daily enjoyment.
Kanbayashi Shunsho
Established by Kanbayashi Shunsho during the Eiroku era, Kanbayashi Shunsho Honten boasts a distinguished 450-year legacy as a renowned tea house in Uji. Since the late 14th century, when the Ashikaga Shogunate played a role in enhancing the prestige of Uji tea, the Kanbayashi family has been dedicated to producing Uji tea. Now in its 14th generation, the family continues to honor tradition while embracing innovation under the guidance of Kanbayashi Shunsho XIV, maintaining the heritage of Uji tea and contributing to the development of tea culture in Japan.
