Hatsu Mukashi (Ceremonial Matcha for Usucha and Koicha)

Hatsumukashi denotes the matcha crafted from the very first tea leaves harvested at the commencement of the season, a venerable tradition that traces its origins back to the Edo period. This exquisite matcha represents Kanbayashi Shunsho’s highest grade, masterfully designed to excel in the preparation of both usucha (thin tea) and koicha (thick tea).

When served as usucha, Hatsumukashi presents a sophisticated and harmonious flavour profile, artfully balancing sweet undertones with a pleasantly tart character reminiscent of dark chocolate. Its texture is remarkably smooth and velvety, akin to fresh cream, imparting a silky sensation upon swallowing. The lingering aftertaste is delicately floral, providing a refreshing finish that enhances the overall tasting experience.

In the form of koicha, the tea undergoes a transformation into a profoundly rich and full-bodied brew. It delivers intense umami flavours accompanied by a subtle bitterness that evokes the depth and complexity of chocolate. This thick tea is striking in its intensity, offering a deeply gratifying and memorable flavour that captivates the senses.

Beyond its exceptional taste, Hatsumukashi stands as both a refined delicacy and an immediate source of revitalisation, leaving those who partake in it feeling rejuvenated and invigorated. Its unique qualities make it an outstanding choice for connoisseurs seeking a ceremonial matcha that embodies tradition, elegance, and sensory delight.
